Who We Are
What We Do
Accounting For It
Toronto Arts Council (TAC) has been supporting artists and arts organizations for 31 years. In 2004, we awarded just over $8.5 million to 434 Toronto organizations and 190 individual artists.

TAC is an independent body governed by a 29-member, volunteer Board of Directors. A majority of directors are working artists. Grants are adjudicated at arms-length from government using a peer review system that is widely admired for fairness, transparency and efficiency.

premise

A great city fosters a vibrant cultural scene and recognizes the importance of the arts to the quality of life of its citizens. Strategic municipal arts investment is a key factor in generating a healthy city economy, promoting cultural tourism, creating training and employment opportunities, and seeding cultural industries.

mission

Toronto Arts Council is an arm’s length body that supports the development, accessibility and excellence of the arts in Toronto.

Toronto Arts Council (TAC) offers grants programs to the city’s arts organizations and professional artists. These programs, funded through the City of Toronto, invest in a broad range of activities from individual creation and small start-up projects to some of Canada’s largest and most renowned arts institutions.
