IMPORTANT INFORMATION
FOR GRANT APPLICANTS
CITY OF TORONTO LOBBYIST REGISTRY
The City of Toronto has implemented a Lobbyist Registry that opens on
February 11, 2008.
The purpose of the Lobbyist Registry is to enhance public
confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the City’s decision-making
processes. The Registry will keep track of who talks to whom about what,
in relation to matters to be decided, awarded, recommended or approved
by public office holders (staff or Council). The Registry will make that
information available to the public on the internet.
Groups applying for grants and funding from the City of
Toronto (including Toronto Arts Council) are required to register if they
are communicating with City Councillors in order to encourage support
of a funding application. You are not required to register when you communicate
with TAC staff or when you communicate with public office holders in situations
that are part of the public record, like deputations to Budget Committee
or information meetings. You do not need to register in order to respond
to requests for information, participate in meetings with TAC staff, ask
for information on your application process, or work with TAC staff to
develop or strengthen your proposal.
The Office of the Lobbyist Registrar has prepared information
on its purpose and process and includes definitions of terms such as “lobbyist”
and “lobbying”. Click
