Timea Wharton Appointed Dance Officer at TAC

Toronto Arts Council is pleased to announce that Timea Wharton has joined Toronto Arts Council as the grants officer responsible for its Dance programs.

Timea studied dance at York University (BFA) and performed for a number of years with companies such as Ballet Creole and Canboulay Dance Theatre, before returning to York to complete an MBA (specializing in Arts & Media Management) at the Schulich School of Business. She has held positions in both the private and non-profit sector, including the Dancer Transition Resource Centre. Timea combined her business skills with her love of dance and ran her own dance/fitness studio for a number of years, before re-conceptualizing it as an online business, earlier this year. Timea is a member of the Board of Directors, Dancer Transition Resource Centre, and member, Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists, Dance Ontario, and Canadian Dance Assembly.

“Timea has been involved in the dance community in a variety of roles, as artist, entrepreneur, volunteer, and administrator, which combine to give her a unique perspective on the challenges facing dance artists and organizations,” said TAC Executive Director Claire Hopkinson. “She brings strong communications and analytical skills to her new role and we believe she will make a great contribution, not only to TAC, but to the community.”

TAC Dance programs have a budget totaling $1.12 million. Over 130 applications are received annually from both dance organizations and individual artists and approximately 70 grants are awarded through a peer review process.

Timea will assume her duties at TAC on January 2, 2013. Her e-mail address will be timea@torontoartscouncil.org.(Please note, this email address will not be in service until January.)
