2018 City Budget - Meets $25 per capita goal!
On February 12, Toronto City Council approved a $2 million increase to arts funding. The City has finally met its goal of $25 per capita for the arts.
Originally set as a target in 2003, this historic achievement has been a long time in the works.

At less than 0.02% of the City's $10.9 billion operating budget, the $2 million increase is easily justified. Investing in the arts is good for the economy with every $1 in city arts grants leveraging over $20 in ticket sales, donations and support from other levels of government. Included in the $2 million increase is $500,000 for Toronto Arts Council.
Toronto's Budget Committee heard from members of the public at meetings on January 8,9 and 10, 2018. Many artists, arts workers and supporters volunteers came out to recommend that City Council maintain its arts funding commitments. Those voices included:
