Arts Funding Budget - Have Your Say

The 2018 City Staff recommended operating budget was released on November 30 and is published here: Toronto 2018 Budget

Budget Committee will decide whether to accept the current city staff budget which identifies but does not recommend an increase to arts grants. Alternatively it can reaffirm the City's longstanding $25 per capita arts funding target, and include the final $2 million for the arts in 2018.

At less than 0.02% of the City's $10.9 billion operating budget, the $2 million increase is easily justified. Investing in the arts is good for the economy with every $1 in city arts grants leveraging over $20 in ticket sales, donations and support from other levels of government.

Toronto's Budget Committee heard from members of the public at meetings on January 8,9 and 10, 2018. Many artists, arts workers and supporters volunteers came out to recommend that City Council maintain its arts funding commitments. Those voices included:
